No timed-entry or vehicle reservation is needed to enter Isle Royale in 2026. An entrance fee applies. Check any visit date against the official 2026 rules.

    You must pay the park entrance fee or show an accepted pass.

    • Per person on foot or bicycle: $7.
    • An America the Beautiful pass covers this entrance fee. It does not cover any reservation or permit below.
    • The fee is $7 per person per calendar day, covering your arrival and departure days. It is the only rate published — the island has no roads, so there is no vehicle or motorcycle rate. Children 15 and under are exempt. The park is closed entirely November 1 – April 15, when no fee applies. The $60 Isle Royale Season Pass (U.S. citizens and residents) or a federal lands pass covers the holder plus 3 adults. Cashless; bring your pass on-island.

    Nothing here is required in 2026.

    • Park entirely closed January 1 - April 15 (the 2026 season opens April 16). This is the tail of the same annual November 1 - April 15 closure; the source states it as a recurring season, not a one-off. Park headquarters in Houghton, MI remains the winter administrative office, but the Houghton Visitor Center itself is closed until April 14.

An America the Beautiful pass is accepted here. It covers the entrance fee only. It does not cover a timed-entry permit, a vehicle reservation, a parking tag, a shuttle ticket, or an activity permit.

Entrance fees are charged per person, so a federal lands pass or the Isle Royale Season Pass waives the daily fee for the holder plus up to three adults (four total). A pass does not cover group camping reservations, ferry or seaplane fares, or Rock Harbor Lodge bookings. Several 2026 fee-free days (Feb 16, Oct 27, Nov 11) fall in the closure or shoulder season and are unusable here.
