Grand Canyon National Park entry requirements

You must pay the park entrance fee or show an accepted pass.

• Private vehicle: $35, valid for 7 days.
• Motorcycle: $30.
• Per person on foot or bicycle: $20.
• An America the Beautiful pass covers this entrance fee. It does not cover any reservation or permit below.
• One pass covers both the South Rim and the North Rim for its seven days. The vehicle rate admits one private, non-commercial vehicle and all its passengers, up to a 15-person van. The per-person rate applies to cyclists, hikers and pedestrians. The $70 Grand Canyon Annual Pass gives unlimited visits to this park only. Non-U.S. residents aged 16 and over pay an extra $100 per person, unless admitted on an Annual or America the Beautiful pass.

• No timed entry or entry reservation is required at Grand Canyon. An entrance pass is still required: "All visitors MUST have an entrance pass". Hermit Road is closed to private vehicles for most of the year, but that is a closure, not a reservation — it is covered by its own rule.

• No per-vehicle reservation is required to drive into Grand Canyon. Hermit Road is closed to private vehicles March 1 - November 30, 2026 — a closure, not a reservation.
• North Rim reopened May 15, 2026 after the Dragon Bravo Fire — day-use focused, with major services still missing. "OPEN as of May 15, 2026" — opening was at 6 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2026. "All paved roadways within the park have reopened, including Highway 67, Cape Royal, and Point Imperial Roads". The entire North Kaibab Trail reopened May 15 for foot traffic only; stock use is suspended for the season. Five trails remain CLOSED: Bright Angel Point, Widforss, Transept, Ken Patrick (west) and Uncle Jim. "Water and RV hookups are not available. Campers should bring all potable water with them" — no potable water anywhere on the North Rim during the 2026 season, including at the North Kaibab Trailhead and Supai Tunnel. "The nearest fuel, food, and water is available at the North Rim Country Store and at Jacob Lake" — outside the park. The season is "focused primarily on day use and limited backcountry opportunities". The October 15, 2026 end date is taken from the campground reservation end date and the North Kaibab waterline-repair closure date; the park has NOT published an explicit North Rim season-closing date for 2026 — treat it as provisional. Burn-scar hazard: increased risk of flash flooding, debris flows, rock falls, erosion and falling trees on the upper North Kaibab between Supai Tunnel and the trailhead.
• South Rim is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — no seasonal closure. Hermit Road is closed to private vehicles March 1 - November 30, 2026 — covered by its own rule. Desert View Campground is seasonal even though the East Entrance itself is not.
• Hermit Road is closed to private vehicles March 1 - November 30, 2026 — shuttle or commercial tour only. Private vehicles may drive Hermit Road December 1 - end of February. "The Hermit Road Shuttle and commercial tours provide the only motorized access to this area during those months." Walking and cycling Hermit Road remain allowed year-round. This is a closure, not a permit — there is nothing to book and no fee.

• South Rim shuttle buses — free, no ticket, and the only way to drive Hermit Road most of the year. The Hermit Road (Red) Route is effectively mandatory March 1 - November 30, 2026 because private vehicles are barred from that road. The Village and Kaibab Rim routes operate outside the dates recorded here as well; May 23 - September 11, 2026 is the window the page gives for full summer service including the Tusayan route. "No tickets are required; a portion of your entrance fee pays for this important service."

• No in-park overnight lodging on the North Rim for the entire 2026 season. South Rim lodging is unaffected. North Rim Campground is available from June 1, 2026 — camping is the only in-park overnight option on that rim. Nearest off-park services are the North Rim Country Store and Jacob Lake.
• North Rim Campground reopened June 1, 2026 — reservations through October 15, no water or hookups. "Water and RV hookups are not available. Campers should bring all potable water with them". Cottonwood Campground (below the rim, on the North Kaibab Trail) reopened May 15, 2026 and is a backcountry permit site, not a drive-in campground.
• South Rim campgrounds — Mather and Trailer Village year-round, Desert View seasonal. Mather Campground: "Open all year". Trailer Village: "Open All Year" and is the only site with "full hookups". Desert View Campground: "Open April 11 through October 18, 2026". "National Park Service campgrounds in the park do not have RV hook-ups" apart from Trailer Village.

  • Not required for a South Rim or North Rim drive-in campground stay — those are ordinary Recreation.gov campground reservations.
  • A rim campground or lodge booking is not a backcountry permit, and a backcountry permit is not a campground reservation.
