No timed-entry or vehicle reservation is needed to enter Wind Cave in 2026. There is no entrance fee. Check any visit date against the official 2026 rules.

No reservation is required to enter Wind Cave National Park in 2026. Some activities need their own permit.

This park does not charge an entrance fee.

    Wind Cave National Park does not charge an entrance fee.

    • Wind Cave charges no entrance fee at all. Driving the park roads, hiking, wildlife watching and the visitor center are free. Every fee at Wind Cave is a cave-tour or campground fee, which is a separate matter from entry.

    Wind Cave National Park has no timed-entry system.

  3. Vehicle, road, or corridor

    • Elk Mountain Campground - reservable on Recreation.gov, open year-round. Drinking water and flush toilets are available late May through September only; fees are half price when water is not available. Payment is by credit or debit card only. Park staff cannot issue refunds for the campground.

      • No ticket is needed to enter the park, hike, drive the park roads or visit the visitor center - only to go into the cave.
      • There are no self-guided cave tours.
      • Roughly half of all tickets are held back for same-day first-come first-served sale at the visitor center and often sell out soon after the visitor center opens.
      • An Elk Mountain Campground reservation does not include or reserve a cave tour ticket.

      • Candlelight Tour minimum age 8, limited to 10 people. Wild Cave Tour minimum age 16, limited to 6 people.
      • In the August 9 - September 7, 2026 block the Candlelight Tour runs only through August 22; the Wild Cave Tour runs through September 7.
      • Neither tour appears in any 2026 schedule block before June 7 or after September 7.
      • The Accessibility Tour is also reserved by phone, up to three days in advance.

      • Free.
      • Overnight parking without a camping permit is prohibited; permits are not issued specifically for parking.
    • Cave tour booking window: Inside 2 days there is no online option - remaining tickets are same-day, in person, at the visitor center.
    • 2026 cave tour schedule is published: The times recorded here are the June 7 - August 8, 2026 peak block: earliest tour 8:40 am, latest Accessibility Tour 5:00 pm.

Fees and passes

Wind Cave does not charge an entrance fee.

Wind Cave charges no entrance fee at all. Driving the park roads, hiking, wildlife watching and the visitor center are free. Every fee at Wind Cave is a cave-tour or campground fee, which is a separate matter from entry.

An America the Beautiful pass is accepted here. It covers the entrance fee only. It does not cover a timed-entry permit, a vehicle reservation, a parking tag, a shuttle ticket, or an activity permit.

There is no entrance fee for a pass to cover. Interagency passes explicitly do NOT cover cave tour tickets, which are Expanded Amenity Fees. Senior and Access Interagency Pass holders may get a reduced campground fee. The 2026 fee-free days list is reproduced on the park's fees page but is functionally irrelevant here because Wind Cave charges nothing to enter and tour tickets are not waived.
