Olympic National Park entry requirements

You must pay the park entrance fee or show an accepted pass.

• Private vehicle: $30, valid for 7 days.
• Motorcycle: $25.
• Per person on foot or bicycle: $15.
• An America the Beautiful pass covers this entrance fee. It does not cover any reservation or permit below.
• Fee is per vehicle and covers all occupants. Per-person fee applies to visitors 16+ arriving on foot or bicycle; under 16 free. Park is cashless (credit/debit only). Passes can be bought in advance on Recreation.gov.

Olympic National Park has no timed-entry system.

Nothing here is required in 2026.

• Hurricane Ridge Road winter schedule - open Friday to Sunday only, with a 5 pm exit deadline. In winter the road is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only, plus some holidays; Monday through Thursday it stays gated. Even on operating days, opening is weather and road conditions permitting. No reservation or permit is needed - this is a schedule restriction, not a reservation system. Hurricane Ridge Road is closed on Christmas Day (December 25). All vehicles, including 4-wheel drive, must carry tire chains above Heart O' the Hills November 1 through April 1. All vehicles must be below the Heart O' the Hills entrance station by 5 pm during the winter season. March 31 through April 30 the road may open or close depending on conditions. The road may close at any time for weather; call (360) 565-3131.
• Hurricane Ridge Road open daily in summer - no reservation required. Overnight camping is not permitted in the Hurricane Ridge parking lots. Obstruction Point Road is open mid-June through October 15, weather and snow permitting; not suitable for RVs, trailers, or buses. A water-system rehabilitation project runs through July and August 2026 in the main parking lot; no potable water is available at Hurricane Ridge and asphalt work may require a one-day closure.
• Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge was destroyed by fire in 2023 - no indoor warming area, food service, potable water, or gear rentals. Temporary trailers provide restrooms and a visitor contact station, staffed intermittently Friday through Sunday. Visitors should be prepared to use their vehicles as a warming area.
• Mora Road closed July 8 - October 15, 2026 - Rialto Beach not accessible by road. Mora Campground remains open. The closure applies to pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle traffic beyond Mora Campground.
• Elwha / Olympic Hot Springs Road closed to vehicles at Madison Falls. The road remains open to pedestrians, stock, bicyclists, and leashed pets. A toilet is open at the Madison Falls Trailhead; no further facilities beyond the gate.

Olympic National Park has no shuttle system.

  Applies to All Olympic National Park wilderness overnight camping. Quota areas include Ozette Coast, Yellow Banks to Point of the Arches, Hoh River Trail (Elk Lake, Martin Creek, Glacier Meadows), Hoh Lake and C.B. Flats, Sol Duc / Seven Lakes Basin, Grand and Badger Valleys, Royal Basin, Lake Constance, Upper Lena Lake, Flapjack Lakes, East Fork Quinault.

  • $8 per person per night (16 and older; 15 and under free) plus a $6 non-refundable reservation fee per permit. An Olympic Annual Wilderness Pass is $45 per person and covers the per-night fee but not the $6 reservation fee.
  • Day hiking does not require a wilderness permit.
  • There are no longer paper self-registration permits at trailheads - all permits must be obtained in advance.
  • No sites are held as same-day walk-ups; availability updates in real time on Recreation.gov.
  • A front-country campground reservation does not cover wilderness camping; a separate wilderness permit is required.
